Tickhill is a small town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of
Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, on the border with Nottinghamshire.
It is a popular place to live, very convenient for Doncaster, Sheffield,
Rotherham and access to the A1 (which passes just a mile away from the town
centre). It is home to the ever-popular author and raconteur
Gervase Phinn. It has many quality
local shops, including butchers, a florist, a small supermarket, post office,
arts and crafts shops. There are restaurants, cafes and pleasant pubs, a garden
centre, mill pond, farming supplies centre, library and, believe it or not, a
castle - well, the remains of one. The centre of the village is dominated by
the Buttercross which provides a convenient focal point for events and
festivals, albeit rather noisy as it is surrounded by busy roads which are noisy
and dangerous.
