Rother Valley Country
Park is an attraction for activities on land
and on the water.The Country Park is located
on the borders of Yorkshire and Derbyshire,
near the towns of Rotherham, Chesterfield
and Worksop and the city of Sheffield.
There are 750 acres of walking and
cycling routes which link to the Trans
Pennine Trail and Route 6 Sustrans. There
are 5 lakes of which the main lake is 1 mile
and used for watersports activities. In
2011, European and World qualifier events
for Swimming and Triathlon are planned. The
Watersports Centre is recognised as a
teaching establishment by both the Royal
Yachting Association and the British Canoe
Union. Archery can be booked through
the Centre. The nature reserve and park are
home to over 260 different varieties of
birds. Refreshments and toilet facilities
are sited in the courtyard area with the
Visitor Centre located in an 18th Century
Mill. There is a Miniature Railway operating
a diesel train called "Basil" with a route
of 800 metres. There is a large manned play
area with a small charge to enter and a
small unmanned play area that is free.
