The late 18th century to 20th century saw Doncaster emerge as an industrial
centre. Its communication links, particularly its waterways, meant that
Doncaster became extremely busy and saw much migration to its centre. Underneath
Doncaster lies a huge natural resource by way of a deep seam coal. Recently the
expansion in commercial and residential developments along with good
transportation links with the rest of the United Kingdom, due to its central
location, has led to Doncaster being one of the fastest growing towns in the UK,
with the towns economy growing at an average rate of around 16% annually.
