The photos on this page are a snap shot
of some of the activities which are an
everyday part of residents of, and visitors
to, a typical Yorkshire Dale. In this case
it is Upper Wharfedale, and the photographs
were taken on St George's Day 2009, Thursday
April 24th.
The photographs were taken from the road which runs from Grassington to
Beckermonds, passing through Conistone, Kettlewell, Starbotton, Buckden,
Hubberholme, and into Langstrothdale. The road closely follows the River Wharfe
and also the Dales Way, a long distance footpath from Ilkley to Windermere.
And so ends a day of activity in Upper Wharfedale. A Dale which seems
deserted and quiet when viewed from the windows of a passing car is full of
activity. Visitors and tourists are enjoying the peace and quiet. Visitors and
locals alike make the most of recreational opportunities. Meanwhile, people are
going about their jobs unobtrusively and largely unnoticed. A cricket practice
at the nets completes the photo record of a typical day in Upper Wharfedale.
